What Are Twitch Drops?
Twitch drops are free in-game rewards that game developers and publishers give out to viewers who watch specific Twitch streams. They're a way for game companies to promote their games on Twitch while rewarding viewers with exclusive items, skins, in-game currency, or other digital content.
Think of it like this: you watch a stream of a game you play, and the game developer sends you free stuff for watching. It's a win-win — streamers get more viewers, developers get more exposure, and you get free rewards.
How Do Twitch Drops Work?
The process is straightforward:
- A game publisher creates a drop campaign on Twitch, defining what rewards are available and for how long
- Streamers who play that game during the campaign period become eligible to distribute drops
- Viewers who watch those streams with a linked account earn progress toward the drop
- Once you've watched enough, you claim the drop on Twitch, and the reward appears in your game
Most drops require you to watch for a certain amount of time — typically between 30 minutes and 4 hours, depending on the campaign. Some drops are instant, while others require multiple stages of watching.
How to Enable Twitch Drops
Before you can earn drops, you need to connect your game accounts to Twitch. Here's how:
1Go to Twitch Drops Inventory
Visit twitch.tv/drops/inventory and sign in to your Twitch account.
2Link Your Game Accounts
Click "Connections" in your Twitch settings. Connect accounts for games you want drops from — like Steam, Epic Games, Blizzard, etc. Each game publisher may have their own account linking process.
3Watch Eligible Streams
Find streams with "Drops Enabled" in the stream tags. Watch the stream while logged in to earn progress toward the drop.
4Claim Your Drop
When you've watched enough, a notification appears on Twitch. Go to your Drops Inventory to claim it.
How to Claim Twitch Drops
Earning a drop and claiming it are two separate steps. After you've watched enough of an eligible stream:
- You'll see a notification on Twitch (bell icon) that your drop is ready
- Go to your Drops Inventory
- Click the "Claim" button next to the drop
- The reward will be delivered to your linked game account
Types of Twitch Drops
There are two main types of Twitch drops:
Time-Based Drops
The most common type. Watch a stream for a set amount of time (e.g., 2 hours) to earn the drop. Progress is tracked automatically — you can even split it across multiple streams and sessions.
Event-Based Drops
Less common. These drops are triggered by specific events during a stream, like a streamer achieving something in-game. You just need to be watching when the event happens.
Which Games Offer Twitch Drops?
Hundreds of games run Twitch drop campaigns. Some of the most popular games with frequent drops include:
- Valorant — weapon skins, sprays, and player cards
- Escape from Tarkov — in-game items and equipment
- League of Legends — esports drops during tournaments
- World of Warcraft — mounts, pets, and cosmetics
- Rust — exclusive skins during drop events
- Overwatch 2 — skins during OWL matches
- Path of Exile — microtransactions and effects
- Call of Duty — weapon blueprints and operator skins
- Diablo IV — cosmetic items
- Dead by Daylight — charms and cosmetics
New campaigns start every week. The tricky part is knowing when a campaign starts for a game you care about — which is exactly the problem Drop Hunter solves.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
Drop progress not tracking
- Make sure you're watching a stream with the "Drops Enabled" tag
- Verify your game account is linked in Twitch settings
- Check that the campaign is still active (not expired)
- Make sure you're not muted — some campaigns require the stream to be unmuted
Drop claimed but not received in-game
- Double-check that the correct game account is linked
- Some drops take up to 24 hours to appear in-game
- Try restarting the game
- Contact the game's support if it still doesn't appear after 24 hours
Can't find eligible streams
- Not all streams have drops enabled — look for the drops tag
- The campaign may have ended or not started yet
- Some campaigns are region-specific
How to Never Miss a Twitch Drop
The biggest challenge with Twitch drops isn't claiming them — it's knowing when they start. Campaigns come and go constantly, and there's no built-in way to get notified when a new drop starts for a game you play.
Here are your options:
Manual Checking
You can check the Twitch Drops Campaigns page regularly. This works, but it's tedious and easy to forget — especially for games that run drops infrequently.
Follow Game Social Media
Some developers announce drops on Twitter/X or their Discord servers. But you'd need to follow every game individually, and announcements can get buried in your feed.
